PATRIOTIC QUOTA EXCEEDED
DUNEDIN PASSES OBJECTIVE DUNEDIN, August 24. A total of £75,000, or £l5OO in excess of the Dunedin quota for the patriotic appeal, was reached on Saturday night when the All People’s Queen Carnival was concluded and was found to have provided £16,068. The carnival, which extended over nine weeks, was conducted by the Labour Party. Dur/din is the first of the main centres to i?ach its quota. Mr Roy Herbert, president of the Otago Trades Council, Dunedin, has received the following telegram from the Deputy Prime Minister (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan): “I have been informed of the outstanding success which has attended the efforts of the last two months of your carnival committee, representing the trade union movement and the Labour Party in raising £16,000 for patriotic funds, thereby assisting the Dunedin-St. Kilda sub-zone to exceed its quota. Please convey my heartiest congratulations to the Trades Council, the Labour Representation Committee, Mr W. B. Richards, chairman of the joint committee, and to all those who' co-operated with you to enable you to achieve such fine results.
