FOUR PERSONS INJURED
TRAMS IN_COLLISION (P.A.) AUCKLAND, August 21. When two trams collided in the upper end of Pitt street late this afternoon, injuries necessitating hospital treatment were suffered by both drivers and two passengers. They wer: taken to hospital, and after receiving treatment for minor injuries at the casualty department were able to proceed home. Another passenger collapsed when the accident occurred, but quickly recovered.
A heavily-loaded tram bound for Ponsonby, which should have run to the top of Pitt street and turned into Karangahape road, accidentally turned at the set of automatic points opposite Beresford street leading to a siding in that street. As it came on to the downhill line of the Pitt street double track it struck another tram which was returning from Ponsonby with only a few passengers. The drivers’ cabins were severely damaged and glass was strewn over the roadway. Long lines of trams quickly collected on each side of the collision and after a period were diverted.
