PATRIOTIC NOTES

The Christinas packing will begin at the depot on Monday, August 31. Country committees must have their parcels packed and In Invercargill not later than September 30. They will not be forwarded if later than this date. Each parcel must contain a cake. Knitted goods have been received from the following: Mataura W.D.F.U., Waianiwa, Invercargill W.D.F.U., Nightcaps, Drummond, Little Southlanders, Kennington, South A, Waimatuku W.D.F.U., Hedgehope patriotic and school children, Browns W.D.F.U., Waimahaka, Wyndham, Lumsden, Bluff, Avenal, Riverton, South B, Wairio, Brydone, Orawia W.D.F.U.J Otautau W.D.F.U., Taramoa, North Invercargill, Roslyn Bush, Fairfax, Orepuki, Georgetown, Hawthorndale, Kennington, Longbush, Wrights Bush, Central. Avenal-Northend The following comforts have been handed in to the depot: Eight scarves, 30 pairs of mittens, 24 balaclavas, five pairs of gloves and three pairs of socks. The Lady Galway Guild has been making small camouflage nets. Gladstone.—The committee wishes to thank those women in their district who have been knitting Mrs Wyatt, Duke street, has bd?n appointed secretary in succession to Mrs Milward. Mrs Simmonds gave a demonstration last week of the making of camouflage nets. The monthly collection amounted to £37/10/9. Georgetown.—The following knitted goods have been handed in during the week: Twenty-four balaclavas, 21 pairs of mittens, 19 scarves, 14 pairs of socks. South B.—The committee wishes to thank knitters. Wool is still available from Mrs Gough, 19 Dalrymple street. The following knitted garments have been handed in:— Nine navy scarves, 11 khaki scarves. 12 pairs of socks, two pairs of seaboot stockings, 40 pairs of mittens. North Invercargill.—The Girls Club will meet on Tuesday next, when Mrs Simmonds will instruct the girls in the making of small camouflage nets. Central.—Members of this committee are busy with the house-to-house collection connected with the comforts coupons. The committee thanks the Technical College and individual knitters for goods received, also Miss Hanan for £1 from sale of goods. South A.—A meeting will be held on Monday at 2.30 p.m. in Knox hall, Conon street.
