Mrs W. Swale. Limehills, has returned from Christchurch. Mias Norma Paterson, Robertson street, Lindisfarne, is at present on holiday in Christchurch. Mrs A. F. Ritchie Crawford will act as chairman of the Play-Reading Circle of the Southland Women’s Club during the absence of Mrs Milward. Mrs G. R. Milward, Duke street, was the guest of honour at morning tea in the Tudor Lounge yesterday. Mrs B. W. Hewat was hostess and the guests included members of the Gladstone Patriotic Committee. Mr and Mrs E. Edwards, Pukerau, will arrive in Invercargill today for the wedding of Miss Monica Healy to Sergeant-Major Frank Beadle, which takes place on Saturday. _ Members of the Air Force Relations Coni” mittee and the St. John’s Old Girls’ Association have combined to arrange entertainments for the troops at the Welcome Club this week. Last night a dance was arranged and on Monday an informal nignt was held. A programme has also been arranged for tomorrow night. f The Bridge Circle of the St. Catherines Ex-Pupils’ Association is having a very good season this year. At the fortnightly meeting held in the Tudor Lounge on Tuesday night there were 11 tables at play, me prize-winners were: Contract, Miss Eileen Lynch; auction, Miss Marie Searle; hidden number, Miss Rose Shepherd; 500. r M iss Sheila Lyons: euchre, Mrs K. McKillop. The next meeting will be an open night. The sum of £4OO, to purchase an ambulance for the use of the New Zealand forces, has been raised by Mrs Marcia Short, of New York. The ambulance, which will be used in New Zealand, is to be presented in memory of her nephew, Flying Officer Michael E. B. Macassey. R.A..F., younger son of Mrs Macassey and the late Mr J. E. Macassey, of St. Clair, who was killed on active service over England in August 1940. Members of the Registered Nurses Association were guests of the Play-Reading Circle of the Women’s Club on Wednesday evening, when a successful presentation of "Romantic Age,” by A. A- Milne, was given by the following cast:—Henry Knowle,. Mrs J. N. Armour; Mary, Mrs Robbie; Meusande, Mrs R. Burns Watson; Jane Bagot, Miss Campbell; Bobby Coote. Miss Lets Robertson; Gervase Malloy, Miss D. Thompson; Em, Miss Helen Wyatt; Gentleman Susan, Miss England; Alice and Chorus, Mrs A. G. Simmers. During the evening a shoulder spray of freesias was presented by Mrs A. M. Macdonald to Mrs G. R. Milward, the chairman of the circle, who is leaving shortly to live in Christchurch. OBITUARY.— A well known resident of Riverton, Miss Maud Robinson, died recently. She was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Joseph Robinson, who. were among the early residents of the Riverton district. Miss Robinson gave her services freely to the town in many ways. She was prominent in musical circles, acted as secretary for the Golf Club for many years and reached championship standard in golf and tennis. Miss Robinson acted as organist for the Anglican Church, as well as giving service to the Methodist Church. ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Olive Frances, second youngest daughter of the late Mr and Mrs G. Millburn, Invercargill, to Hugh, third son of Mr and Mrs William McKinnon, Mataura.
