WORK BEGUN ON GORE TRAFFIC BRIDGE

TELEGRAM TO MINISTER When at Gore last week the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, gave an undertaking to make representations on behalf of the Gore Borough Council and other bodies in their objections to the proposed move by the Public Works Department to make the Gore traffic bridge a one-way structure, but so far no official word has been received from Wellington. Yesterday morning the contractor who also has had no advice from Wellington, made a start with the work of running a partition down the middle of the bridge. The seriousness of making the bridge a one-way bridge was stressed at the meeting with the Minister and in view of the position which has now arisen the Gore Borough Council sent an urgent telegram to Mr Webb yesterday asking what was to happen. When the borough office closed last evening no reply had been received.
