SHORTAGE OF SAWMILL HANDS

A shortage of first-class sawmill hands in Southland was disclosed at the sitting of the Southland Man-Power Committee yesterday. Several appeals on behalf of men in the sawmilling industry were heard and adjourned, it being stated that in no case were there any men to replace reservists who had been called up for military service. In aU cases the reservists were required to serve in the Home Guard and be available for mobilization in an emergency.
