APPEAL FOR INVENTIONS FOR ARMY

(Special Correspondent, N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 9. An appeal for more inventions for the Army has been made by the Minister of the Army, Mr F. M. Forde. Although the new Army Inventions Directorate had received nearly 1300 submissions, numbers of which had proved most useful, he said, more ideas were wanted. The Minister announced a new type of land mine which is being manufactured for the army. The mine, which is on the secret list, was invented by Mr L. R. Gleadall, a Brisbane commercial traveller, who served with the First Australian Imperial Forces on Gallipoli and in France. He then submitted several ideas for inventions, some of which were used.
