GOLF— There was no match in the men’s section on Saturday. A flag match played by the women was won by Mrs Moir. PERSONAL— Leading Aircraftman Edwards is a visitor to Bluff. WASTEPAPER — The local branch of the Red Cross Society is collecting waste paper and the rooms will be open every Monday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the purpose of receiving it. Pieces of cotton or silk will also be welcome for making emergency quilts. VITAL STATISTICS.— The figures for May with the totals for May last year given in parentheses are as follows: Births, 4 (6); deaths, 0 (0); marriages, 0 (1). PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE.— At a meeting held on Tuesday night the Mayor, Mr N. W. McGorlick. presided. The resignation of Mrs D. E. S. Mason on account of illness was accepted with regret. The secretary stated that the receipts to date totalled £1856/0/2. Of that amount £383/12/5 was being credited to the all purposes appeal, which closed on September 30 next. A discussion took place on means and ways of raising the balance to reach Bluff’s quota of £B2O, a carnival being suggested. It was decided to approach the Women's Patriotic Committee and ask for its consideration of the proposal.
