MAJOR-GENERAL FREYBERG PROMOTED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 3. Major-General Sir Bernard Freyberg has been granted the temporary rank of Lieutenant-General. Announcing this the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, said this further promotion was yet another well-deserved honour for a soldier whose whole career had been marked by fearless courage and distinguished leadership, and who had, through his command of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. in the Middle East, during this war, inspired the Dominion troops overseas to continue and add to the fine record of the New Zealand forces in the last war.
