The fat cattle market was larger than the previous week’s and the market was generally firm. FAT CATTLE.—The market opened quietly, but firmed during the sale and finished firm on last week’s quotations. Mixed prime heavy bullocks made up to £l7 2/6, prime heavy cattle from £l4 to £l5 and medium from £lO/10/- to £ll/10/-. Extra prime heifers made to £l3/10/-, medium from £9/10/- to £lO/10/- and lighter from £7 to £B. Prime heavy cows made to £ll, medium £8 to £9 and lighter from £6 10/- to £7/10/-. Best runners made to £4 2/6, medium from £2 to £2/15/- and lighter sorts to £l/10/-. FAT SHEEP.—The market for fat ewes was a good one and values were 2/6 a head better than last week’s. There was a good entry and values for wethers were firmer. Extra prime wethers made up to 37/-, good quality from 32/- to 34/- and medium from 30/- to 32/-. with lighter down to 28/-. Fat ewes brought up to 26/-, good butchers’ ewes from 23/- to 25/-, medium down to 22/6 and lighter from 16/- to 19/-. FAT LAMBS.—The entry of fat lambs was a smaller one and sold fully up to schedule rates. STORE CATTLE.—The entry .which was lighter than that of last week, sold at round about late rates. Bidding for the older class of cattle was not brisk. Best conditioned two-year-old bullocks made from £8 to £B/15/-, mixed colours £6 to £7. Good yearling steers made up to £4. others £2 15/- to £3/15/-. Best-conditioned empty cows realized up to £6, others £4 to £5, | average sorts £2/10/- to £3/10/-, culls down to £l. Good conditioned two-year-old heifers made from £3/10/- to £5. There was a large entry in the dairy section, best guaranteed sorts close to profit making from £8 to £lO, others £5/10/- to £7. September-October calvers made from £3 10/- to £6. STORE SHEEP.—Competition was keen for the small entry and the market was firm for all classes at late rates. Two, four, six and eight-tooth ewes made 27/-, best full-mouth ewes to 25/-, other lots from 20/to 23/-. Low-conditioned failing-mouth ewes made from 7/- to 11/- and best wether lambs to 17/-, other lots selling from 12/to 14/-. Poorly-bred ewe lambs made to 23/8, best conditioned store wethers made up to 27/-, others selling from 23/- to 25/6. GORE STOCK SALE A special entry of registered and grade Shorthorn cows and heifers offered on account of Mr J. L. Keir (Charlton) was a feature of the Gore stock sale yesterday. Registered cows sold at 14‘/ 2 gns, 14gns, 13‘,4gns down to llgns, and registered heifers realized up to 17gns, other being 14gns, 12 I ,4gns down to Bgns. Grade cows made from £B/5/- to £ll/15/-, and grade heifers sold at from £5 to £lO/10/-. The remainder of the entry was made up mostly by fat sheep and fat cattle. In the sheep section fat wethers realized up to 36/9, other prices being 26/9 and 25/6. Fat ewes sold at 22/6 down to 20/-. Store ewes sold at 22/6 down to 20/-. Store lambs brought 17/- and ewe lambs made 25/9, this price being paid for a small line. In the cattle section a line of fat bullocks offered on account of Mr W. L. Scott (Mataura) was sought after and good prices were obtained. The top price in this line was £l5/17/6, other prices being £l4/17/6, £l4/5/-, £l4, down to £l2/15/-. Fat steers brought from £8 up to £l3/12/6 and fat cows realized from £4 up to £lO/10/-. other sorts selling at £lO and £B/10/-. Fat heifers changed hands at from £6 up to £l2/15/-. WOOLCLASSING RESULTS AT DUNEDIN The woolclassing competitions at the Dunedin Winter Show resulted as follows:— Open Competition.—J. J. Wylie (Pukerau, 100 points), 1; P. L. Geddes (96). E. Beckingsale (96), E. R. Harding (96), all equal, 2; F. D. Binney (88), A. O. Fleming (Woodlands, 88), H. R. Geddes (88). First-year Competition. Ten entries.—E. R. Harding (100 points), H. R. Geddes (100), E. Beckingsale (100) equal, 1; F. D. Binney (96), H. D. Morgan (96), P. L. Geddes (92). Messrs Ross and Glendinning’s special prize for most points went to E. R. Harding (200 points).
