DIVORCE PETITIONS— IBSO divorce petitions, the largest number in any term since the war, are being heard in the Trinity term, beginning yesterday. (London). CONVICTED OF MURDER: Madeline Webb, a former World’s Fair showgirl, and her lover, Eli Shonbrun, and John Cullen have been convicted of first degree murder following the robbing and slaying of Mrs Susan Reich in a New York hotel on March 4. However, the jury recommended mercy for Madeline Webb, who will receive life imprisonment. The others will be electrocuted. The verdict was the climax of a sensational trial in which Shonbrun confessed his guilt from the witness stand in a dramatic but futile effort to absolve the girl and Cullen from complicity in the crime. (New York.)
