Lieutenant-Colonel H. C. Mackenzie, commander of No. 12 military area, has resumed duty at headquarters in Invercargill after a tour of northern military camps and areas.
Sergeant J. H. S. Hogg, who has been in charge of the Bluff police station while Sergeant J. Coutts has been on sick leave, resumed his duties at Invercargill yesterday. Mr W. R. Harris, df Invercargill, and Mr J. Middlemiss, of Woodlands, will leave for Dunedin by the express this afternoon to attend the annual meeting of the Otago and Southland Council of Young Farmers’ Clubs. Mr Harris is chairman of the council and Mr Middlemiss is chairman of the Southland District Committee.
Sergeant J. Coutts, of Bluff, who has been on sick leave for several weeks, resumed his duties yesterday. Mr C. G. Wilson, who was president of the Southland Rugby Football Union in 1904, celebrated his golden wedding at Wellington recently. The Southland Rugby Union, at its meeting last night, decided to send a letter of congratulation to him. Mr Wilson is better known to the older generation of Southlanders as an interprovincial cricketer. He represented Southland, Otago and Wellington at cricket.
