CALEDONIAN PIPE BAND
Sixteen members of the Caledonian Pipe Band of Invercargill are serving in the armed forces, according to the annual report presented to members at the annual meeting. The usual strength of the band is 21 members and the committee expressed satisfaction that in spite of defections it was able to call upon the services of one drum-major, 10 pipers and five drummers. The year began with a credit balance brought forward of £36/14/2 and ended with a credit balance of £43/12/1. Mr T. M. Rankin presided at the meeting and complimented the band upon its position. The election of office-bearers resulted as follows;—Patron, Sir Robert Anderson; chieftain, Mr J. L. McG. Watson; president, Mr T. M. Rankin; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Forrester and H. Elder; citizens committee, Messrs J. Watt, G. Blackley, W. G. Kirkness, J. E. Thomson, R. Hamilton, R. McKenzie, H. Diack, E. Crisp, J. Ewen, F. Logan, A. McSparran and J. Heenan; drummajor, Mr C. Henderson; pipe-major, Mr R. C. Sutherland; pipe-sergeant, Mr B. Thomson; senior corporal, Mr R. George; corporal, Mr G. McDonald; drum-sergeant, Mr E. Clark; drum-corporal, Mr D. Boyd; secretary, Mr C. Henderson; treasurer, Mr H. Pay; custodian, Mr R. Geary; auditor, Mr J. Forrester; drill Instructor, Mr F. Logan.
