Miss Rita Collie, Otautau, spent the week-end as the guest of Miss Jean Adamson, Morton street. Mrs Peter Mackenzie, Walter Peak station, Lake Wakatipu, is spending a few days with friends in Invercargill. Mrs Fitch, Waimate, is staying with Mrs A. F. Speight, Redcliff, at the Rocks, Riverton. Miss D. Fleming, Dunedin, is the guest of Mrs Eustace Russell, Herbert Mrs J. H. Sutton, Moa Flat, arrived last night to stay with Mrs J. R. Sutton, Earnslaw street, for the DavisBasstian wedding. Visitors to town for the Davis-Bass-tian wedding tonight include Mr and Mrs L. Raymond, Riverton, Mr and Mrs J. L. Gilkison, Balfour, and Mr and Mrs E. Pike, Winton. Captain F. J. Medley and Mrs Medley, Mataura, Mr and Mrs Carvel Herbert and Mr and Mrs Frank Herbert, Heriot, and Mr J. A. Helmkey, Dunedin, will arrive today for the DavisBasstian wedding and will be the guests of Mr and Mrs T. E. Davis, Forth street.
Miss Irene M. Cruickshank, who was home science mistress at the South Otago High School at Balclutha, has taken up an appointment as part-time member of the Training College staff in Dunedin, and part-time member of the staff of the Home Science School, where she will be lecturer to final year students on household arts education. A New York message states that Lieutenant William McChesney Martin, former president of the New York Stock Exchange, married Miss Cynthia Davis, daughter of the former secretary of War, Mr Dwight Davis, at Baltimore. Mr Martin resigned a 48,000 dollar position when he was called up as a private on April 9, 1941. He recently received a commission and was assigned to the Headquarters Detachment of the War College.
