The Social Round
Mrs C. S. Reid, Dunedin, is the guest of Mrs W. E. Hazlett, Filleul street. Mrs E. Ross and Miss B. Ross, McMaster street, will return tomorrow from a holiday spent at Hampden. Miss N. North, of the staff of the Stratford Post Office, who has been appointed assistant supervisor of the Invercargill telephone exchange, began her duties yesterday. Mrs W. Orr, Balfour, a Dominion vice-president of the W.D.F.U., is visiting the North Island. She addressed a provincial meeting of the division at Wanganui and later went to Palmerston North and Hawke’s Bay. The St. John Ambulance Women’s Guild appeals to the public for old or new material to be made into bandages for use in an emergency. The need is urgent and the response is required at once. Persons may ring Mrs W. M. C. Denham (president, 1324) or Miss M. Todd (secretary, 525 R) to have material collected. •
Miss Audrey Holdgate, who has won high praise for her singing in a bright revue staged by the Tuis in Egypt, is the only daughter of Mr and Mrs Herbert Holdgate, Timaru. Miss Holdgate, who went to the Middle East with the first draft of the W.W.S.A., is an accomplished musician. She was frequently heard in New Zealand in radio recitals and on concert platforms.
