R.S.A. BUILDING FUND.— The following contributions have been received by the secretary of the U.S.A, for the building extension fund:—Ladies’ Bowling Association, £lO/17/-; A.R.H., 5/-; R. J. Robertson (Pahia), 9/-; J. E. Salisbury, 7/-. NATIONAL SAVINGS.— Up to Wednesday £1674 had been received in National Savings investments in Invercargill, leaving £369 to reach the weekly quota of £2043. In addition to the 13 towns which reached their quotas last week, Winton also exceeded its quota of £193 by £34. BINOCULARS FOR FORCES.— Since the appeal for binoculars and telescopes was launched by the Army Department, more than a month ago, 190 pairs of binoculars, 22 telescopes and one prismatic compass have been handed in at the Chief Post Office.
HOME GUARD BIVOUAC.— A week-end bivouac for B Company of, the Invercargill Battalion of the Home Guard will be held at Greenhills on March 14-15. Members of the company are requested to take two sacks each to next Sunday’s parade for the purpose of making palliasses. TEST OF SIRENS.— A test of the alarm sirens in Invercargill will be made about 2 o’clock this afternoon. Certain new installations will be in operation. The public is advised that no action should be taken.
CO-OPERATIVE WORK.— Workers engaged on tunnelling work for the construction of air raid shelters throughout the Dominion are permitted to enter into contracts on a co-operative basis for such work. Authority for this is given in the Labour Legislation Suspension Order gazetted last night. (P.A.) MAN-POWER COMMITTEE.— Tie sitting of the Man-Power Committee on March 16 will be held in Invercargill. On March 17 sittings will be held at Wyndham and Mataura and on March 18 one will be held at Gore.
