IT IS REPORTED THAT the Russians have surrounded Orel, which is almost due south of Moscow. After the German commander had refused a demand to surrender the Russians began an intense bombardment of the town. The situation of the 16th German Army trapped at Staraya Russa, north-west of Moscow, appears to be growing daily more precarious.
