DANCE TO BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY
FUNCTION FOR SOLDIERS BY WELCOME CLUB A decision to hold a dance on Wednesday evening next in H. and J. Smith’s hall under the auspices of the newly-formed Invercargill Welcome Club, for the entertainment of soldiers in camp, was made at a meeting of delegates of various organizations last evening. It was decided that members of the W.W.S.A. would provide the staff for the dance. After a long discussion it was decided to form a general executive, composed of members of the Southland Territorial Force Association and one representative from each of the other city organizations, to control the affairs of the club. Mr and Mrs G. J. Reed were appointed joint secretaries of the general executive. Fifteen tickets were issued to each of the women’s organizations, which will appoint representatives to attend the function. It was decided that a set of rules be drawn up. The meeting was presided over by Mr S. A. Bell and Mrs H. C. Mackenzie. A letter was received at the meeting from H. and J. Smith Ltd. offering their hall free of charge as a centre for the Welcome Club.
