FINED FOR FAILING TO ENROL

(P.A.) HASTINGS, March 4. “His excuse was that as he is the father of two children and was living with a woman although not married to her, he should have been classed as a married man,” said Senior-Sergeant E. Quayle in the Hastings Magistrate’s Court when Eric William Booth, builder, of Hastings, was charged with failing to enrol in the First Division of the National Reserve. The senior-Ser-geant added that the defendant had since married. Counsel, Mr W. Le B. Helleur, stated that the defendant had no desire to evade service. He had filled in the forms, but his housekeeper had failed to post them. Mr J. Miller, S.M., said there could be no excuse for anyone not enrolling and inflicted a fine of £l5.
