“SKYLARK” COMES TO REGENT
When a man becomes so devoted to business that he uses his wife as a pawn to move as the occasion arises there is bound to be trouble. The story of “Skylark,” which opens at the Regent Theatre on Saturday, is designed to prove this case, and with a cast of top-ranking stars to make the most of it, it is an extremely gay and highspirited piece of entertainment. The trouble is simmering when the film opens on the wedding anniversary of an attractive couple. It comes to the boil, but still in a quiet, happy way, when anniversary presents are introduced. But when the ■ “go-getting” young publicity man sees the chance of a big contract and gives away his wife’s cook, the envy of all their guests, to drive the woman behind the contract into good humour, it boils over with a vengeance. After that the story switches into top gear. The beautiful young wife decides that freedom is worth more to her than being a slave to business, and she sets about obtaining it with a will, helped greatly by an obliging and admiring lawyer. Claudette Colbert and Ray Milland are the stars.
