CLOSING DATES FOR COMPETITIONS At a meeting of the management committee of the-Southland Cricket Association last evening it was decided to close the senior competition after the next fixture, which marks the finish of the third round. If the leading teams are equal in points there will be a play-off. The third grade competition will close at the end of the second round after two more playing Saturdays. The closing date for the junior A competition was held over. It was decided to send congratulatory letters to C. G. Shirley, of the Union senior team, and A. Gilchrist, of the I.C.C. third grade team, on their securing hat tricks in recent matches. Fixtures for next Saturday are as follows: Senior— Bluff v. Old Boys, at Bluff: Marist v. Invercargill, at Appleby ground: ApplebyRailway v. Union, at High School. Junior A— Georgetown v. Kiwi, at Queen’s Park No. 2; Union v. Old Boys, at Queen's Park No. 1: High School v. Borstal, at Borstal. Third Grade— High B v. Invercargill, at High School; Appleby-Railway v. Marist, at Biggar street: High A v. Georgetown, at High School. The position of the teams in the various grades are as follows: — Senior—Union, 28; Old Boys, 26; ApplebyRailway, 15: Invercargill, 13; Bluff, 13; Marist, 5. Junior A— Borstal, 28; High School, 24; Old Boys. 14; Kiwi, 12; Union, 12; Georgetown, 4; Appleby-Railway, withdrawn, 8; Invercargill. 0. Junior B— High School, 16; Old Boys, 12; Georgetown, .4; Marist, 2. Matches were suspended after January 13. Third Grade— High School A. 24; In Vercargill, 20; Appleby-Railway, 12; Georgetown, 12; Marist, 10; High School B, 4. TOWN TEAM SELECTED The selector, Dr G. H. Uttley, has chosen the following players to represent town in the match against Eastern Southland at Gore on Saturday. March 14:—N. Forde (Marist). H. Fraser (Old Boys). J. Ingram (ApplebyRailway), C. Johnson (1.C.C.), wicketkeeper, G. Marshall (Union), H. Mclvor (Bluff), S. Richardson (Old Boys), J. Scandrett (Old Boys), captain, K. Semmens (Old Boys). C. Shirley (Union), A. Storrie (Union). The team will travel by the 6.15 p.m. express for a whole-day match, returning by the evening express. Any player not available should notify the secretary immediately. Mr G. Agnew was appointed manager of the team.
