DUKE OF AOSTA DEAD

(Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, March 3. The Duke of Aosta, the former Italian viceroy of Abyssinia, has died at Nairobi. He was a cousin of King Victor Emmanuel of Italy. He was appointed viceroy of Abyssinia in 1937. In the present war the Duke was commander-in-chief of the Colonial and Italian forces in Abyssinia and East Africa until he surrendered with 19,000 men to the Imperial forces. He was then suffering from tuberculosis, and was allowed to live in comfort at Nairobi.
