PUBLIC NOTICES A ROUND THIRTY Of the seventy-three members on our staff are in the bakehouse taking great pride in producing “Good Things to Eat”—the complement of all the up-to-the-minute machinery and equipment — they think it is time the poet made way for a stanza to themselves. A. C. MILLARS, LTD. The hands at our bakehouse have gathered their heads In a circle, to write some good verses. Their effort, which follows, has kept them from beds Long after their usual disperses: We of the bakehouse are proud of the way . That “Good Things to Eat” are concocted; So here’s where we come in in having our say— In a verse that’s been heavily doctored. There’s Andy and Jimmy and George and old Sam, Who’re famed for their baking, and bowling On greens that are heavy, or fast as a tram That ’tween stops has got past you, just strolling. Then there’s Archie and Jock, who at billiards do make Figures as round as their pies; And Bob, who puts ginger in biscuits and cake, And Ted, a Home Guardsman so wise; And Davy, of wheelbarrow fame, is the next To receive such honourable mention. And there are some others, we’re sure, who’re not vexed If their names in this verse miss attention. —Contrib. by D.B.J.
