Mr G. T. Baylee, president of the Otago District Law Society, who represented the society at the opening of the new courthouse at Invercargill, has returned to Dunedin. Leading Naval Airman N. J. Dorman, son of Mr and Mrs T. B. Dorman, Duke street, has been commissioned as a sublieutenant (A) in the Royal Navy. Mr R. B. Hemmings left by the express yesterday morning to begin training with the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Mr G. C. Bentley, who was formerly a member of the reporting staff of The Southland Times and who has for the last year been Timaru representative of The Press, is visiting Invercargill before joining the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Warrant Officer W. . F. Kitchener, son of Mrs D. MaeLaren, Wendon Valley, has been granted a commission and has been promoted to the rank of 2nd lieutenant in the Middle East Forces. Advice has been received at Gore that Captain A. D. Reid, who is in command of C Company, 20th Battalion, New Zealand Expeditionary Force, has been promoted to the rank of major.
