USE OF SCHOOLS FOR MILITARY PURPOSES

EDUCATION BOARD TO RESIST OCCUPATION

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 28. The Wellington Education Board today adopted a resolution that it would resist the taking over of schools for military purposes until the absolute necessity or the absence of other accommodation was shown. It also decided to urge that a conference between the Ministers of Education and Health and other interested parties be held to clarify the position. During the discussion it was urged that the interests of picture theatres and hotels be sacrificed before those of education and also that public halls and commercial buildings could be adapted.
