(P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 27. An announcement that the War Cabinet had approved of a Government contribution of £2 for £1 on all expenditure for emergency precaution services as from January 1 of this year was made by the Hon. R. Semple today. This "subsidy, he said, would apply 1° all items of expenditure, such as administration, transport services and so on, but it would not be necessary to interfere with arrangements made for air raid shelters. The Minister said that full information about the subsidy was being circulated forthwith.. Mr Semple also announced that the War. Cabinet had approved of E.P.S. authorities making the necessary arrangements in their respective districts whereby vehicles which had been reserved for emergency precautions services could be provided with a battery service to keep them mobile at all time to meet any emergency that may arise’. The Government subsidy of £2 for £1 would be payable for this battery service, but an amount of £l/10/— per annum would be the maximum upon which the subsidy could be claimed.
