WILL STAND BY AUSTRALIA

(Rec. 9 p.m.) OTTAWA, January 26. Answering the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Hanson) the Canadian Prime Minister (Mr Mackenzie King) declared that Canada will stand side by side with Australia and give every help possible m men and machines in the present crisis. He emphasized that the war must be regarded as a whole and that decisions to send men and equipment to any battle front must be taken after consultation with the British and United States authorities. “There is no doubt that the Canadian Government and people would welcome a chance to be oi direct assistance to Australia,’ he added.
