ALL-IN WAR EFFORT

DRASTIC STEPS IN AUSTRALIA non-essential work TO STOP (Rec. 11 p.m.) PERTH, January 27. . Hundreds of Australian factories will be closed within the next few weeks by the Commonwealth Government. This drastic step was announced today by the Prime Minister, Mr J. Curtin, at a civic reception in his honour. He said that the Government was determinedito abolish non-essential industry and use all the labour and machinery possible for war production. The major task would be to rush aeroplane construction. Mr Curtin appealed to employers not to waste time arguing with the Government. “Sie how quickly you can adapt yourself to this new state of affairs. Our war mobilization means that there will soon be in Australia a social order the very anti-thesis of that which has hitherto prevailed,” he added.
