RESPONSE TO APPEAL FOR BINOCULARS
MANY PAIRS OFFERED IN WELLINGTON (P.A.) WELLINGTON, January 27. Nearly 100 pairs of binoculars have been handed in at the Chief Post Office, Wellington,forthe use of the armed forces since the national appeal was made at the race meeting at Trentham on Saturday. Their owners started to take them to the Post Office immediately it opened on Monday morning and 37 pairs were handed in that day. Included among the instruments were four telescopes, one of which stands four feet high, and a number of opera glasses. One man handed in two telescopes and a good pair of binoculars. German binoculars. captured in the Great War and brought back to New Zealand figure in the collection, four pairs being received. * Most of the binoculars have been offered on loan, but some are straight-out gifts. Two pairs of binoculars have been received at Te Aro Post Office. RESPONSE IN INVERCARGILL Twenty-one pairs of binoculars were received at the Chief Post Office, Invercargill yesterday in response to the appeal recently launched for these instruments for the armed forces. The appeal has been open for two days and 26 pairs have now been handed in.
