RIVERTON
CHILDREN’S PARTY
A happy Christmas party for the children of the soldiers of the district was held in the Riverton R.S.A. club rooms. The hall was crowded, there being over a hundred children present. Mr G. Cloughley, president of the R.S'.A., said that the R.S.A. had wanted to do something in honour of their fathers and brothers who were overseas, and he hoped they would tell them about it when they wrote. The Rev. J. N. Goodman, padre of the club, said grace and Mrs Goodman cut the Christmas cake,
After tea Mr Cloughley took the opportunity of making a presentation to Mrs F. Thomson and her daughter in appreciation of her services as pianist on Anzac Day and also because of their pending departure from Riverton. Miss Senga Whittingham, on behalf of the Riverton children, and Miss Olive Stick, on behalf of those from Colac Bay, also thanked the members of the R.S.A. for giving them the party, saying that they appreciated it very much. There was great excitement among those present when Father Christmas appeared. He gave each child a present from the heavily-laden Christmas tree in the corner and, in addition, an eskimo pie. The rest of the cunning was Spent in games.
