DISTRIBUTION OF STOCK

During the week the members of the depot committee have been engaged packing hospital equipment for despatch to various parts of the town. This step is being undertaken to safeguard a large portion of the stock, it being recognized that the Red Cross headquarters (where £2OOO worth of stock is in hand), is situated in the centre of the business area. ■■ A certain amount of equipment is being retained in Esk street for any immediate emergency. During the week three cases of goods, including hospital equipment, have been forwarded from the depot to the Bluff Red Cross Society. Members are also at the present time making a further supply of Home Guard bags and dressings.

The society acknowledges with thanks a donation of £2l/3/11 from the Invercargill Horticultural Society for the V.A. room, also £4/10/- from the Otahuti Sub-Centre, and a quilt of Peggy squares from Longbush school children. The committee thanks members of the Waikiwi Sewing Guild for the supply of material and making of boys’ pyjamas and girls’ nightdresses and bed jackets for Queen Charlotte hospital. Voluntary Aid Training.—On Wednesday evening a class of 43 began training in first aid. The next lectures will be on Wednesday, January 7, in the V.A. room at 7.30 p.m. The secretary will be in attendance from 7 p.m. St. John Ambulance and the New Zealand Red Cross Society.—A donation of £l2 from the Thornbury Red Cross Sub-Committee for the sick and wounded fund is acknowledged with thanks. During the week members of the hospital committee met overseas returned men and distributed comforts. Tobacco is also supplied weekly to those Southland soldiers who are inmates at Waipiata Sanatorium, ~..
