NATIONAL SAVINGS

RECORD INVESTMENTS

Up to Thursday National Savings investments at Invercargill totalled £3605 for this week, thereby exceeding the quota by £1562. This is a record since the campaign began 14 months ago and the fourth successive week in which the objective has been obtained. As a result of this week’s result the “V” flag and the money ball will remain at the post office mastheads until January 10- .. . The Southland County Council decided to deposit £lOOO from its accrued renewal funds into a National Savings account at its meeting yesterday. A. letter was received from the district organizer (Mr W. G. Nield) setting out the necessity for the success of the National Savings campaign. Councillors agreed that an effort should be made to help the campaign. Several suggestions were put forward. One was that the two ridings which had surpluses last year should each contribute an amount. Another was that the matter should be the subject of a report by the county clerk to the next meeting. The council afterwards decided to agree to the immediate request of the National Savings organizer by making a deposit of £lOOO.
