WOMEN’S PATRIOTIC WORK
COMMITTEE REPORTS Lady Galway Guild.—The guild has been very busy this week preparing for the juinble sale to be held in St. Paul’s Sunday School Hall on Friday, November 28. It is hoped that all goods unsuitable for despatch overseas will be disposed of. Through the courtesy of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association a stall is to be erected in the Drill Hall at the Summer Show for a further display of work by the Lady Galway Guild. The committee wishes to thank the many donors this week. The country committees continue to work hard, goods having been received from Stewart Island, Wyndham, Otautau and Nightcaps. . SUB-COMMITTEE NOTES All sub-committees will be on duty at the display of film stars’ clothes and accessories to be held in H. and J. Smith’s furnishing department from Tuesday, November 25, to Monday, December 1, (inclusive). Avenal.—This committee is still doing valuable work for the Lady Galway Guild.
Waikiwi.—The monthly meeting will be held at the home of the president, Mrs Acton, on Tuesday afternoon. Georgetown.—Two dozen scarves were handed in to the depot during the i past week. Gladstone.—This committee has supplied helpers for the Lady Galway Guild during the past week. East Invercargill.—The bottle drive on Saturday resulted in £2/8/6 being collected. The boys were unable to do all the streets, but will do so at a later date. The committee desires to thank Miss Gilbertson and the boys for the fine effort. A bring-and-buy sale will be held on Thursday, November 27, in the Mitchell street Kindergarten when donations of cakes, sweets and other saleable goods will be gratefully received. This will be the final effort for the year and a special appeal for support is made to the district. South Invercargill B.—The monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 26, at 2.30 p.m. at the home of the chairman, Mrs J. J. Gough, 19 Dalrymple street. South Invercargill A.—Eight scarves were handed in to the depot on Friday. Central.—A successful shop day was held on Friday, November 14, £62 15/10 being realized. The committee thanks all those who gave donations. The competition winners were:—Workbag, No. 13, Mrs W. E. Asher, 59 Gala street; cushion, No. 64, Mrs Parry, Thomson street; coal, No. 99, Miss J. E. McLeod, Tay street; coal, No. 52, Mrs Parry, Thomson street; coal, No. 56, Mr G. Parry, Leith street; cake, No. 120, Mrs Reid, 15 William street; cake, No. 36, Miss Lush, 177 Don street; bag of sugar, No. 27, Mrs Beck, Kapuka; leather bag, No. 9, Miss Lush, 177 Don street; kiltie doll, No. 136, Mr J. Robertson, c/o Mills, hairdresser, Tay street.
