BEQUEST FOR EXTRA PETROL
WAR CABINET TO DECIDE
(PA) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 20. The Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, will place before the War Cabinet the request of the motor unions for an extra petrol coupon to be made available in each of the next two months, according to a report by Mr W. R. Carey to the council of the Canterbury Automobile Association tonight. Mr Carey said that the Minister’s reply had arrived that evening. He did not have the reply with him, but the Minister, as far as he could remember his words, had also felt it his duty to remind us that the petrol position is still very critical.” Mr F. W. Freeman said that motor unions could be relied on to agitate on behalf of the public in what was felt to be a reasonable request. Mr Carey said that when other areas in the Empire were able to get petrol the rationing caused one to wonder. Mr Freeman: There is no dearth of tankers; there is no dearth of petrol. There may be a dearth of money.
