AIR RAID PRECAUTIONS COST IN AUSTRALIA
CANBERRA, November 19. Lieutenant-General Sir Thomas Blarney, general officer commanding the Australian Imperial Force, said he thought the extraordinarily large sums being spent on air-raid precautions in Australian cities were out of proportion to the risks involved. Australian cities could only be attacked by seaborne aircraft, whose numbers would be limited by the circumstances. Air-craft-carriers themselves would be highly vulnerable targets, as had been proved on several occasions.
