FRENCH DESIRE TO RECONQUER SYRIA

(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, November 18. The Cairo correspondent of The Daily Telegraph says that 5000 French troops released from prison camps arrived in Salonika in July to participate in the Syrian campaign and were retained after the armistice for garrison duties. The French force in Salonika is now reported to be 30,000, partially mechanized. They are not performing garrison duties, but consider themselves a spearhead for the reconquest of Syria with the slogan, “Syria in two months.” They believe they will possibly synchronise the conquest with a German advance on Batum.
