EMPLOYERS’ APPEALS HEARD
SITTING OF MAN-POWER COMMITTEE Forty appeals against territorial service were heard by the Southland ManPower Committee at a sitting which opened in Invercargill yesterday. The committee consisted of Messrs E. H. Murney (chairman), D. H. Cockburn and D. W. Stalker with Mr J. W. Hinchey as secretary.
The majority of the appeals were by farmers on behalf of employees or by cheese factory managers for assistants. After discussion with the committee most of the employers nominated periods which would be most suitable for the reservists to proceed to camp. In several cases the appeals were allowed and others were dismissed.
The sitting will be continued today. Early in December the committee will consider appeals for exemption from the two months’ training arranged for January and February for territorials.
