EVENING SPORTS MEETING

GOOD PERFORMANCE BY

L. LAMB

The first of the evening sports meetings conducted by the Invercargill Amateur Cycling Club and the Invercargill Amateur Athletic Association was held at Rugby Park last evening in unpleasant conditions. The track was in good order, and for so early in the season some fairly good times were registered. A feature of the meeting was the excellent performance of L. Lamb, a Tchnical College boy, who won both the 100 yards and 880 yards events in convincing style. In the latter race he staged a particularly good finish, coming from about fourth place 25 yards from home to win by a good margin. The cycling events were evenly contested throughout and some good finishes were seen, particularly in the one mile and a-half cycle handicap, when C. Waddick and J. O’Neill came from the middle of the field a short distance from home to catch the leading men and gain places. There was a poor attendance of the public. Another meeting will be held next Tuesday. The Civic Band was present and played several items. The results were as follows: —

RUNNING 100 Yards Open Handicap: L. Lamb (scr) 1, W. Eastlake (syds) 2, R. Withington (2yds) 3. Time, 0.11.
