A. G. SUTHERLAND IN AIR FORCE TEAM
LONDON, November 13. Squadron Leader G. C. Kain, brother of Flying Officer E. J. (“Cobber”) Kain, has been appointed Royal New Zealand Air Force Rugby selector for the team to play Rosslyn Park at Richmond on November 29. Squadron Leader- Kain says that the team will “be very workmanlike. The players will be drawn from stations throughout the country and will include as scrum-half the Wellington player, Sergeant Te Moana, who has already represented his station. Otherplayers will probably include Sergeant A. G. Sutherland (Invercargill) and Pilot Officer E. Grant, both All Black Squadron Leader Kain is considering arranging matches after Christmas with British services teams in London.
Sergeant Sutherland is the well-known Southland representative who was a reserve player for New Zealand in the Second Test against the Springboks in Christchurch in 1937. He was a member of the Invercargill Football Club. He showed outstanding form in a match at Winnipeg between New Zea-
land and Australian Air Force fifteens. An account of his performance in that match appeared in The Southland Times. Sergeant Sutherland is one of many prominent Southland footballers who have played a leading part in service matches. W. L. Crawford, one of Southland's outstanding forwards, led a Navy side some time ago and Lieutenant A. W. Wesney was included in the team that played in Egypt recently.
