GENERAL HUNTZIGER KILLED

VICHY, November 12. General Charles Huntziger, Vichy Minister of War, and one of the French signatories of the armistice with Germany, was killed in a plane crash near Nimes. The plane in which General Huntziger and seven others were flying to France from Algiers crashed 50 miles from Nimes. All the occupants were burned to death. The plane lost its way in thick fog and the last message from it was received shortly before 1 p.m. The wreck was found after dark. General Huntziger was returning from a 10,000 mile tour of inspection of French possessions in North Africa and was due to report to Marshal Petain today. He was accompanied by M. Jean la Busquiere and Captain de Royere, who were respectively his chief secretary and orderly officer, and also his valet and the military writers of Vichy newspapers. General Huntziger commanded the 2nd French Army during the Battle for France. It held positions next to those of General Andre Corap’s 9th Army, the collapse of which let the Germans break through at the Meuse and cut off the French Northern armies and the British Expeditionary Force, which were fighting in Belgium.
