APPEAL MADE TO FARMERS

SEED PRODUCTION That the department wanted as much small seed as possible saved this year was a statement made by Mr W. Faithful, director of the fields division of the Department of Agriculture at Gore, yesterday. The Minister had appealed to farmers for more seeds, and this appeal applied particularly to Southland, Mr Faithful said. The quality of Eastern Southland’s seeds was known the world over. Seeds of a high quality were re-

quired and the seeds that were most in demand were certified seeds. Just as it was hoped to increase the amount of seed harvested, so it was hoped that the amount of certified seed harvested would be correspondingly increased. Farmers contemplating saving grass and clover seed should, therefore, endeavour to save seed from areas the produce of which would be eligible for certification.
