BEAU VITE WINS COX PLATE

MOONEE VALLEY CUP TO YOURS TRULY HOSTILE DEMONSTRATION BY CROWD (Bee. 8.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, October 26. The former New Zealand Cup winner, Yours Truly, ran his best race in Australia when he won the Moonee Valley Gold Cup yesterday. A hostile demonstration, however, greeted the victory, as last Wednesday he failed to run into a place in the Werribee Cup, for which he was favourite. His trainer, Frank Dalton, however, deserved his success as he prepared the unlucky Silver Standard. True Flight may have won only he was carried out wide at the turn by Reading, who was a good fourth considering the interruption in his preparation. Son of Aurous finished a fast third and enhanced his Melbourne Cup prospects. Rivette disappointed. Beau Vite had to be ridden right out to win the W. S. Cox Plate and whether his performance was up to Melbourne Cup requirements was a matter of opinion. Beau Vite was inclined to loaf in the middle stages, but finished kindly, covering the last half-mile in 48'/2sec. Tranquil Star was a game second, and Laureate directed attention to his Derby chance by finishing a fast third. The others were unimpressive. Omapo recorded a smart win in the Phoenix Handicap and won in the last stride after interference half-way. Manurere was third in the same event. Regency, owned by Mr W. R. Kemball, had a brilliant win in the first division of the St. Albans Handicap, in which Monpere was unplaced. Pioneer, with a fast finish, scored a fourth place in the second division of the St. Albans Handicap. Saul bled after galloping today and whether he starts in the Melbourne Cup depends on his form at Flemington on Saturday. The principal results were:— W. S. COX PLATE, £lO5O.
