TOURNAMENT HELD AT GORE SENIOR MATCH WON BY A. DES FORGES A successful tournament was conducted by the Gore Golf Club on its links at Croydon during the week-end. Competitors from Dunedin, Invercargill and Gore took part. The weather was ideal and the links were in splendid condition. The entries were good and competition in all sections was keen. The Gore District Open Plate match over 36 holes was won by A. Des Forges, of the Queen’s Park Club, who returned a card of 158, taking 75 for the morning round and 83 for the afternoon round. B. Mehaffey (Invercargill), L. G. Thomson (Gore) and A. Cullen (Queen’s Park) all returned I cards of 167 and in a play-off for the position of runner-up, Mehaffey was successful. In the intermediate section J. P. Steans (Gore), secured an easy victory, returning a card of 172, taking 85 for the morning round and 87 for the afternoon round. H. P. Belsham (Queen’s Park) was runner-up with a card of 182. N. Young (Gore) won the junior match with a score of 184, R. E. Sutherland (Gore) being runner-up. At the end of play the president of the club (Mr J. A. S. Aitken) presented the trophies and congratulated the various winners. He expressed the hope that all competitors had spent an enjoyable day on the links. Mr Aitken thanked the visitors for their support. Mr A. As Steans and Belsham were winner and runner-up respectively in the intermediate championship, the morning medal went to Turnbull. Junior: A. Plain 97-24-73; R. E. Sutherland 91-16-75; N. Young 92-16-76; J. Taylor 95-19-76; J. Bishop 98-21-77. AFTERNOON MEDAL HANDICAPS Senior: A. J. Aitken 76-6-70; L. G. Thomson 84-8-76; B. Mehaffey 81-5-76; H. Willcocks 88-9-77. Intermediate: J. P. Steans, 87-15-72; E. J. Crosbie, 88-14-74; R. Lusk, 92-15-77; Ingram, 92-12-80. The prize went to Crosbie because Steans had already won the championship. Junior: J. P. Bishop, 91-21-70; N. Young, 92-16-76; E. Calder, 97-21-76; J. A. S. Aitken, 96-17-77; J. Taylor, 96-19-77. The prize went to Calder, - Bishop having secured the prize for the medal aggregate and Young being the winner of the junior championship. QUEEN’S PARK CLUB . Two Stableford matches were played '■ by members of the Queen’s Park Golf Club during the week-end. Conditions ■ were good, although the course was a 1 little soft after recent rain. The first i match was won by A. des Forges, with 35-2-37, closely followed by A. R. Cui- ' len, with 31-5-36, and E. S. Thomson, j 28-8-36. Des Forges went round in 73. ’ The second match was won by E. B. ' Hughes, with 30-8-38, followed by L. R. McDermott, 22-12-34, and J. termediate, junior and 24-handicap plate knock-out competition. In the intermediate Hughes beat Tunnicliffe 4 and 3. Hughes was 11 up on the first 18 holes as the result of a fine 78. In the junior section Harrington beat Frampton by the same margin, 4 and 3. In the 24-handicap competition A. Carter won from J. Padget, 4 and 2. The Ayson Shield match with the women’s club was postponed for a fortnight.
