NEW PROBATIONER LICENSED

MEETING OF SOUTHLAND PRESBYTERY At a special meeting of the Southland Presbytery in St. Andrew’s Church, South Invercargill, Mr J. N. A. Smith was licensed as a probationer of the Presbyterian Church. The service was conducted by the moderator, Mr J. McFadgen. The Rev. E. Gardiner, under whose ministry Mr Smith grew up, addressed the candidate on the serious call of the Christian ministry. After the ceremony members of the presbytery were the guests of the women of St. Andrew’s Church at supper. Mr Gardner, on behalf of the congregation, made a presentation to Mr Smith. In thanking the people of St. Andrew’s for their inspiring influence on his career, Mr Smith outlined the difficult nature of his future work as a minister to the Maori people.
