NATIONAL SAVINGS The Mayor, Mr N. W. McGorlick is convening a meeting to he held in the Council Chambers on Thursday with a view to forming a Bluff committee to advance the National Savings Campaign. The postmaster, Mr A. M. Wilson, has been advised of the sum to be set as an objective for each week’s takings, and a ball on the flagstaff at the Post Office will indicate in barometer fashion the position of the takings during the week. If the objective is reached a special National Savings flag will be hoisted. GOLF Mrs Bragg was the winner of the Cochrane Cup, beating Mrs Moir in the final on the Bluff Golf Club’s course. A ball given, by an anonymous donor for the best 48 handicap player was won by Mrs McQuarrie. The stroke match played on Saturday was won by E, J. Moon, 110-48-62. Other results were: A. Morrison, 109-42-67; R. W. Moir, 117-48-69, C. Hunter, 100-30-70; H. A. Ferguson, 97-26-71; C. Parsons, 97-25-72; E. R. Murray, 117-45-72; H. W. Newman, 110-36-74. Two group matches were played. Murray beat Stewart 2 and 1 and Beaton beat Moon 5 and 4. E. J. Moon’s handicap has been reduced to 45.
