JAPANESE ROB INDO-CHINA
SOLDIERS RAID WAREHOUSES. AUTHORITIES HELPLESS (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) MANILA, Oct. 12. Indo-China has been stripped by the Japanese Army of imported and manufactured articles and Frenchowned raw materials. This is reported by Americans who have just arrived from Saigon. Recently Japanese,, soldiers in Saigon broke into a number of warehouses containing several million dollars worth of American goods. They trussed up the watchmen while the merchandize was removed. Aircraft flew over the city and machine-guns were mounted at strategic points and. the French police were ordered outside the zones being pillaged. GOODS SOLD BACK Representatives of the American firms claim that the Japanese shipped stolen petroleum and machinery to Hainan Island, where they were repacked with other goods. Japanese trade marks were attached to the goods, which were then sold to Indo-China. Representatives of the victimized companies claim that the French Colonial Government has been denuded of all powers and Tokyo is unable to control the army of occupation.
