WOOLLY _SHEEPSKINS INQUIRY INTO APPRAISAL AND PACKING (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 23. The Minister of Marketing, the Hon. J. G. Barclay, referred today to his recent announcement about the setting up of a committee to investigate the present method of appraisal and packing fellmongering and the sale of woolly sheepskins in the Dominion. He said the personnel of the committee selected was as follows: Messrs H. M. Christie (chairman), representing the Government; R. C. Burgess, sheepskins controller; J. Fraser, manager of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, representing producers nominated by the Meat Board and the Wool Council electoral committee; H. F. Carter, representing the Master Butchers’ Association (selected by the association); and F. D. Burnett, representing the Woolbrokers’ Association (selected by the association). He added that the members of the committee met him yesterday for a preliminary discussion on the order of reference for the inquiry and the committee had now begun its deliberations.

DUNEDIN RABBITSKIN SALE ADVANCE IN VALUES (Special) DUNEDIN, September 23. A good offering was submitted at today’s rabbitskin sale, approximately 45 tons being catalogued. Buyers representing the principal exporting and fur houses were in attendance and a good clearance was effected. The offering principally comprised summers, springs and outgoings with small parcels of winters. Competition was excellent and values on the average showed the following advances: — Bucks, 3d to 12d dearer; does, 2d to 8d dearer; low grades, firm to Id dearer. First bucks sold to 187 d, first winter does to 174 d, second winter bucks to 184 d, second winter does to 167 d, spotted winter bucks to 167 d, spotted winter does to 157 d, furrier does to 157 d, outgoing winter bucks to 149 d, outgoing winter does to 134 d, spring bucks to 127 d, spring does to 119 d, stained does to 117 d.
