FRENCH BOYS CROSS CHANNEL IN CANOES

(8.0.W.) RUGBY, September 21. Five French boys who arrived from France in two canoes in order to enlist in General de Gaulle’s forces were welcomed by Mr and Mrs Churchill. They spent 30 hours on the journey, using sails at night and paddling by day. Near the English coast one canoe was smashed on die rocks and the three occupants swam ashore. All five landed near Eastbourne. Two pairs of brothers and a friend composed the party, their ages ranging from 17 to 19 years.
