DEMOLITION OF OLD HOUSE

PROPERTY SUBDIVIDED IN HERBERT STREET One of the oldest houses in Invercargill has recently been demolished to give way to a building programme. It was a wooden dwelling on the north side of Herbert street, near Dee street, formerly occupied by Mr A. le H. Hoyles, who recently left Invercargill to live in Auckland. The house was believed to be more than 70 years old and was at one time occupied by the parents of Mr R. T. Meredith, solicitor, of Invercargill. The house' and the beautiful garden have been demolished and the section has been subdivided into five sites for dwellings. Three sections of about 30 poles will have frontages on to Herbert street and a drive-way will give access to two sections of about a-quarter of an acre each at the back. The new owner is ,Mr R. W.
