SEAMAN ABSENT WITHOUT LEAVE

(P.A.) TIMARU, September 10. A New Zealander, Patrick Jeremiah Gallivan, who took part in the evacuation from Dunkirk and was a member of the crew of a ship which shot down a Nazi plane, was sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment with hard labour on a charge of absenting himself from his ship without leave. The accused, who was the only New Zealander in the crew, was granted leave on his arrival in the Dominion, but he returned a day late. Later, he took another day off and this week took more leave.
